Summary
It can be seen from the two mass flow charts, that a complete utilization of the type 5 and type 6 residues from flux free remelting of magnesium scrap is possible. The resulting products are metal, salt, inert oxide residue and intermetallics which all can be reused. The draw back of such a processing is the great effort for melting, leaching, evaporating of water and the off gas treatment. Thus a direct utilization in the aluminum industry or dumping of dross and crucible sludge must be considered referring to economic and ecologic reasons.
