Summary

This study examines the T6 ageing behaviour, characterised using hardness-time data, of the AZ93 alloy and compares this to that of the binary Mg-9Al (A9) alloy and AZ91. The as-cast and precipitation hardened microstructures are described, with the microstructural examination utilising optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the phase identification being carried out using energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques.
