Summary

Due to an increasing demand of lightweight constructions magnesium enjoys recurrent attention. The main driving force comes from the automobile industry. In contrast to established magnesium die-castings a very limited spectrum of wrought alloys and semifinished products, especially magnesium sheet is available. Therefore besides high quality steel products Salzgitter AG has started research activities in the field of magnesium rolled products. This paper puts the accent on the lightweight potential, workability and technological properties of magnesium sheet metal.
