Human chromosome 2 is the second largest human chromosome. This submetacentric chromosome, which contains ∼8% of the genetic material in the genome, originated from a telomere–telomere fusion during hominoid evolution. It is characterized by a number of gene clusters including homeobox D and immunoglobulin κ light chain.
