Abstract

This chapter reviews conventional and novel methods of analysis of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons in environmental samples. Sampling and pretreatment techniques of air, soil and water are discussed, as well as various clean-up and extraction methods. Most of the relevant polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) separation techniques are reviewed. The principles and performance of the common PAH detection systems are presented. An introduction to novel analytical techniques, which will probably be introduced in the near future, is also provided.
