Abstract

In this chapter, we review some of the most promising technologies in the fields of microfluidics and nanotechnology. Although our focus is on DNA analytical devices for microbial diagnostics and disease detection, many of the technologies also have applications for protein detection, cancer diagnostics and imaging, flow cytometry, and immunoassays. Applications and advances in the areas of nanopore technology, nanoparticle-based assays, cantilever arrays, and other biosensors are covered.
