Abstract

This article introduces the hierarchical Bayesian (HB) approach to modeling the spatial-temporal structure and dependence as well as the model uncertainty. Many problems in the environmental sciences involve inferences for space-time-varying physical processes, which can be summarized in three stages: Data model, process model and prior on parameters. The HB approach allows for combining observations with physical models.
