Regression trees are a flexible statistical method for modeling the conditional distribution of a response variable given a vector of predictors or covariates. Trees have several advantages compared with classical parametric regression methods: they are completely nonparametric; they include powerful variable subset selection; they are robust to outliers in the covariate space and are used easily on a wide variety of data structures.
