Species overlap measures the degree to which two species assemblages share common species. There is an abundance of well-studied indices of species overlap. Some are based on presence/absence of data; more popular ones take relative abundance of species into account. Several important indices are described in this article, as well as an entrée to relevant literature.

  • species overlap;
  • compositional similarity;
  • compositional differentiation;
  • species richness
