Spherical statistics is concerned with data that lie on the sphere of unit radius, and so are unit vectors representing directions in three-dimensional space. Typical examples of such data are directions of paleomagnetism in rock or directions of normals to cometary orbits. Spherical statistics also provides methods of analyzing data that are axes or rotations.
