Abstract

This article describes statistical computing for the environment. A distinction is made in computing for modeling, statistical analyses, use of large packages, and use of the Internet. Modeling requires the use of basic programming routines; a standard statistical package is recommended for a statistical analysis; typically, geographical information system (GIS) packages and integrating programming environments are interesting large packages; and the Internet offers great opportunities for data and information sharing.
