Where do animals move to, how many animals move, which routes do they choose, and how many animals survive the migration or dispersal are key questions for ecologists. Information on movement and migration often comes from tagging studies. This article presents a short review of the models typically used in tagging studies. New models are being developed to deal with continuous, complete data from satellite and archival tags and state-space models for this type of data are presented.
