Abstract

In addition to a general summary of the field modal acoustic emission, four new things of significance are presented in this article: (i) how to roughly size fatigue crack depth in metal pressure vessels; (ii) delamination waveforms and relating acoustical energy to delamination size; (iii) a simple formula for predicting the front end frequency of the E wave as a function of plate thickness; (iv) wave shapes for an important range of plate thicknesses.
