Abstract

This article gives an overview on fatigue life assessment methods based on finite element (FE) results. The basic analysis of service loads acting on a structure is described. The essential background is provided for evaluating the fatigue life using the stress-life and the strain-life approach. Furthermore, attention is given to effects on the fatigue strength related to the component's surface and size. Exemplarily, fatigue life evaluation is illustrated for a uniaxially loaded notched member as well as a component under multiaxial loading.
