Abstract

This article describes capabilities of surface-mounted and embedded eddy-current sensors for onboard structural health monitoring (SHM), including detection and monitoring of damage as well as monitoring of usage state variables such as stresses and temperatures. The focus is on flexible, model-based SHM sensors such as MWM-Arrays, which are placed at selected locations to provide enhanced observability of damage and usage state variables as well as enable diagnostics—specifically to support life management decisions.
