Summary

Bottles from two triple-section gob machines were studied to determine effects of blank mold swabbing on glass weight distribution. Collected data indicate that blank mold swabbing temporarily shifts the final glass distribution toward the base of the ware with resultant thinner sidewalls. This effect appears consistent with the hypothesis that the application of swabbing compounds temporarily decreases the heat of transfer from parison to blank mold.
