Summary

The reactions between ceramics containing free silicon and Ni-based alloys were studied over the temperature range 1150°-700°C. The metal and ceramic specimens were heated in air under a compressive load of 200 N, and a reaction was detected at all temperatures. The reaction was analyzed using microprobe, XRD, and STEM techniques.
