Summary

Refractory metal ceramic composites are formed by a novel synthesis route combining the advantages of powder metallurgical (PM) and pressure casting processing. For example, Fe-Cr-Ni alloys reinforced with alumina can be fabricated by a reactive infiltration. in the present paper, the essential reaction mechanism to form interpenetrating microstructures even at low ceramic loading are outlined.
