Summary

Ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) are promising materials because of their complicated fracture mechanisms. However, standard methods for evaluation of the mechanical properties did not have been established. The evaluation for CMCs has been investigated within the PEC-CGT project (Development of the 100kW Automotive Ceramic Gas Turbine Project managed by the Petroleum Energy Center). Based on the results, fourteen kinds of standards have been published in March 1997. These standards were not only used to evaluate properties of the CMCs developed in the CGT project, but also are expected to contribute to further international standardization.
