Summary

I can summarize the present situation in the following manner. Modeling has continued its “Upward” trend of improvements and refinements because there has been continuous attention paid to modeling by the proponents who continue to work on their codes and to model the latest ideas presented to them. In addition to that, the computing power has doubled several times so that a modern desk top or lap top can do what a large computing machine of the CRAY-1 variety could do 15 years ago. Contributing to this are the efforts of several people and organizations to gather armor data into databases and to make them available to the armor community. (Holmquist et al, Birnbaum et al, Anderson et al.) The armor community has used several canonical experiments to compare their computer results and to modify the codes accordingly. (Johnson, Johnson Holmquist, Walker and Anderson).
