Summary

The mechanical properties of Al2O3-SiC composites using American Matrix whiskers as the reinforcement are presented and correlated with various processing parameters. These include whisker size and morphology, whisker loading, whisker surface modifications, matrix compositions, and hot pressing temperatures and hold times.

The composite microstructure, fracture surface, whisker-matrix interface, and grain size are investigated via scanning electron microscopy and correlated with the mechanical property data.
