Summary

Bond strength of zirconias using platinum film was investigated with shear strength test. Fracture shear strength over 100 MPa was obtained on YTZ/Pt/YTZ joint. The reason for high strength is attributed to the formation of a Pt-Zr-O compound in the interlayer. It is indicated by XPS results that the oxygen in the compound is in a less ionic slate. It is suggested from TFXD method that the thickness of the compound layer was less than about 90 nm.
