Summary

Most will agree that firing is the most critical operation of the production process. After all if our fired parts do not meet acceptable standards, all the labor and expenses involved in producing a product are lost. Recognizing this, the ceramic industry has sought new and better ways to understand and control the firing process, searching for improved accuracy, reproducibility, and precision as a means to improve product quality and reduce loss. Today, quality conscious operations take advantage of all available tools to insure they have the best possible control over their fired results. Two such tools are thermocouple-based temperature measuring instruments and pyrometric cones.
