Summary

Dispersion characteristics and slurry-pressing behaviors of SiC whisker/SiC powder mixture in aqueous slurry were investigated in the development of a fabrication process of whisker-reinforced composites. Dispersion characteristics of the slurry were evaluated by sedimentation tests. Rheological behaviors of the slurry were evaluated by a coaxial cylinder viscometer. Selected compositions of slurry were filter-pressed into ceramic green bodies and their green densities were measured. Slurry-pressing behaviors were strongly correlated with dispersion characteristics.
