Summary

Fracture toughness values were evaluated by the surface crack in flexure method for 15 advanced ceramics, including silicon nitrides and carbides, titanium diboride, boron carbide and zirconia, expanding the fracture toughness database for these materials. These results are being used in support of the draft standard for fracture toughness testing under development in ASTM Committee C-28.
