Summary

The use of plastic, paint, and porcelain enamel for major appliance components is noted. Samples of each of the materials, as used in appliances, are compared using both recognized industry tests and common household products. The outstanding performance of porcelain enamel is discussed. The need for true material-to-material comparison when deciding on the material or finish for major appliances is underlined.
