Summary

Nicalon SiC flberJSolaramic glass composites were consolidated between 1150°C and 1350°C. The formation of Cr3C2, SiO2 and CrSi2 phases were identified near the fiber/matrix interface. These reactions were predicted from the ther-modynamic data. These reactions caused brittle failure in the composite.
