Summary

Mechanisms of fracture initiation and propagation in silicon carbide resulting from high-temperature exposure to liquid and gaseous lithium were examined. Fracture toughness, flexural strength, and fractographic characteristics were examined as a function of time and temperature in lithium exposure.
