Summary

A method to evaluate both ceramic fiber tows and single tow composites was identified. Specimens were prepared by mounting each end of the tow in epoxy. The epoxy was then gripped and the specimen was tested in tension. Preliminary test data were obtained on both silicon carbide fiber and aluminum borosilicate fiber. It appeared that this type of test would be useful to determine, relatively, the effects of different processing parameters on the tensile strength of a tow.
