The use of industrial X-ray computerized tomography in the evaluation of refractories was examined. The scanner enables nondestructive detection of defects as small as several hundred m̈n. The X-ray absorption values can be processed so as to display the distribution in density as an image or to represent it in numerical values. Specific results are given for examination of a submerged nozzle and a tundish nozzle for steel casting.
