Summary

This paper describes the different types of mechanical stirrers that have been used in forehearths at Corning Glass Works. The reasons behind the development of various configurations of glass mixing stirrers and the modeling approach followed for the development of new stirring devices are discussed. Performance of stirrers is illustrated with reference to actual glass applications.
