Abstract

Commercial airlines face many complex decisions, from strategic planning to daily operations. For more than 30 years, the operations research (OR) community has played a critical role in helping to solve many of these challenging decision-making problems. In this article, we focus on OR approach to resource allocation problems in passenger aviation. We discuss some of the most well-known problems and their respective solution approaches, review current research in the field, and highlight emerging research areas of future importance.
