Abstract

This article describes the mission of the Portuguese OR Society (Associação Portuguesa de Investigação Operacional—APDIO) and how it is organized. Its main activities are described as well as its relation with the Portuguese academic and industrial communities. It also includes a picture of the international scientific relations promoted by the APDIO, some highlights from the long list of national and international conferences organized or supported by the APDIO, and the main publications along with the names of the editors. Wherever appropriate, a few historical facts are presented, namely, the list of presidents of the APDIO since its foundation until 2011. We finish with the future challenges of the Portuguese OR Society.
