The study of animal learning and behavior has a rich tradition within the field of psychology. While learning has many definitions across fields, a useful framework for animal learning is defining it as a process in which behaviors are modified as a result of experience, provided that the change in behavior cannot be attributed to innate response tendencies, rapid change of stimuli (Domjan, 2006), developmental maturation, or temporary state factors (such as fatigue; see Runyon, 1977).
