Abstract

Until recently, most Western mental health professionals usually assumed that their own psychologies and therapies were the only ones worthy of serious consideration, but fortunately this ethnocentric attitude is changing rapidly. Here we will limit discussion to four Asian psychologies—the yogic and Buddhist psychologies of India, and the Taoist and neo-Confucian systems of China—which despite their differences, also display significant commonalities.
