Abstract

Assessment psychology is a field of behavioral science concerned with methods of identifying similarities and differences among people in their mental and emotional characteristics, their functioning capacities, and their dispositions to behave in certain ways. To this end, assessment methods are designed to provide information about individuals' intellectual abilities, their personality features, their neuropsychological status, and their attitudes, interests, and attainments. This article reviews the history of assessment psychology, its primary areas of inquiry, its commonly employed measures, and its present position as a field of psychological science and practice.
