Before 1990, coaching as a profession was recognized only in connection with mentoring corporate executives (Williams & Menendez, 2007). Within the last 15 years, however, coaching has come to be considered one of the fastest growing trends in the areas of health and well-being (Williams & Anderson, 2006). At present coaching encompasses a growing number of specialties as diverse as getting adolescents to do their homework and assisting those leaving the workplace to create meaningful retirements.
