The study of dreams has moved from a focus on what they mean to attention to the underlying neuroscience mechanisms that are involved in their generation. Current research suggests that cortical areas involved in dreaming reflect those areas associated with emotional and sensory processing and lack the involvement of higher-level logical thinking.
