Abstract

Sigmund Freud moved from Moravia to Vienna at age four and lived there for nearly 80 years. He demonstrated an unusual intellectual ability early in life and was encouraged by his family. Freud graduated with distinction from Gymnasium at age 17 and entered the University of Vienna to study medicine and scientific research. Because of his diversified interests in biology, physiology, and teaching, as well as medicine, Freud spent eight years at the university. Finally persuaded to take his medical examinations, he entered private practice as a clinical neurologist in 1881.
