The past three decades have witnessed significant increases in legalized gambling opportunities in the United States, with all but two states allowing some form of legalized gambling. These opportunities have been accompanied by record levels of gambling expenditures. For example, Americans spent over $90 billion on legal gambling activities in 2006, which represented a 7.7% increase over record expenditures in 2005 (Christiansen, 2007).
