Intermittent explosive disorder (IED) is a psychiatric diagnosis used to identify individuals who are repeatedly unable to resist angry and aggressive impulses and, as a result, engage in recurrent acts of aggression. As such, IED is the only adult psychiatric disorder for which impulsive aggression is pathognomonic.
