Lawrence Kohlberg is best known for his research on the moral development of children. He received his BA degree (1948) and the PhD (1958) from the University of Chicago. The following year, he went to Yale University and remained there until 1961. After several interim appointments he joined the Harvard faculty of Education and Social Psychology in 1967. His principal work was Essays on Moral Development (two volumes).
