Abstract

The National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology (National Register) was established in 1974 by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) at the request of the American Psychological Association (APA) Board of Directors. The impetus for the National Register's establishment was a movement towards national health insurance; the National Register was created as a mechanism to identify licensed psychologists who would qualify for reimbursement as providers of behavioral healthcare services.
