Pediatric psychology focuses on issues associated with chronic and acute illnesses that confront children, adolescents, and their families. Pediatric psychologists' domains of interest include, but are not limited to, chronic illness, psychosocial adjustment, quality of life, adaptation associated with illness, illness and injury prevention, health services research, and health promotion and public health. The field of pediatric psychology is little more than 35 years old. It grew from clinical and developmental psychology and was influenced by Jerome Kagan, Jonas Salk, Logan Wright, and Donald Routh.
