Psychological assessment consists of a variety of procedures for evaluating characteristics of people. Psychological assessment has sometimes been equated with psychological testing, but the assessment process goes beyond merely giving tests. Psychological assessors integrate information obtained not only from test protocols, but also from interviews, behavioral observations, collateral reports, and historical documents. This article describes these sources of information and the applications of assessment information in clinical, educational, health care, forensic, and industrial/organizational settings.
