Abstract

In their search for knowledge, scientists engage in a variety of research activities. For example, they perform systematic observations and controlled experiments, measure and correlate variables, build and refine instruments, develop test theories, and propose and refute alternative conceptions of phenomena. When used to achieve knowledge and justify claims of it, these activities constitute the scientific method.
