The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is the world's largest organization of basic scientists and physicians who study the brain and nervous system. The society, a nonprofit membership organization, was formed in 1969 and has grown from 500 members to more than 38,000 worldwide. The society's primary goal is to promote the exchange of information among researchers. To this end, it publishes the Journal of Neuroscience and holds an annual meeting each fall that attracts more than 30,000 attendees from around the globe.
