The Society for Personality Assessment, initially incorporated as the Rorschach Institute, was founded by Bruno Klopfer and his students in 1938 in Essex County, New Jersey. The organization was renamed the Society for Personality Assessment in 1971 to reflect the breadth of its mission, which is the furtherance of personality assessment and the ethical and legal use of these concepts and methods. Currently in its eighth decade, the society, an international and national organization, has more than 1,500 members and has developed a wide range of scholarly and educational activities devoted to the advancement of personality assessment.
