Abstract

The past few decades have witnessed a rather striking shift toward the increased use of formal structure in the clinical interview process. It has become commonplace to categorize clinical interviews, on the basis of the degree of intrinsic structure imposed by the interviewer, into one of three distinct subtypes: structured, semistructured, and unstructured.
