Abstract

An extensive literature concerning violence risk assessment (VRA) details discrete risk factors and their derivative instruments for specific violent populations, including sex offenders, young offenders, domestic violence, female offenders, and the violent developmentally delayed (see Nussbaum, 2006). This entry provides a conceptual appreciation for the evolution of VRA technique and content to enable a critical reading of primary literature with an understanding of its defining issues, informed translation of research into practice, and a call for generating advances in this intellectually challenging and practically important area.
